It’s All Good
The stone path through Wee Wisdom Village was bumpy, but Ratta Tat the rappin’ Rat didn’t seem to mind. He was whizzing down it on his skateboard singing, “It’s good, it’s good, it’s not bad it’s all good!” He was about to pass Spunky the Skunk who was headed the other direction when Ratta Tat stopped quickly and hopped off the board.
“Hi Ratta Tat!” Spunky said. “I heard you singing and was wondering, what’s so good?”
Ratta Tat smiled and said, “Spunky, it’s ALL good!”
Spunky looked a little confused. “I’m not sure I get it Ratta Tat. I mean, there are plenty of things that are good. The lunch I have packed in my backpack is good. The grade I got on my last spelling test was pretty good. But the pile of homework I have to do this weekend is definitely not good.”
“Sure it is, Spunky. Here’s a little secret,” Ratta Tat said, leaning in and dropping his voice to almost a whisper. “You have a lot more power than you think. Let’s take that homework you have this weekend. How do you feel about it?”
“Stressed!” Spunky said without a second thought.
“You’re stressed because you think that doing lots of homework on the weekend is no good. Well, try looking at it another way. Try thinking of that homework as all good. In fact, say it with me, it’s all good.”
“It’s all good,” the two said together.
Spunky still looked a little confused so Ratta Tat explained, “When you change the way you think of something, you are actually changing your life. So calling your homework good actually makes it good. Now, this weekend, instead of sitting down and dragging yourself through that pile, you can look at it differently.”
After thinking about this for a minute, Spunky said, “So maybe my homework is good because I’m learning something. And the more I learn, the smarter I am. And the smarter I am, the more things I can do when I grow up? Like become a scientist!”
“Exactly!” said Ratta Tat with a grin. “And you’ll find when you can call that homework good, you won’t be stressed about it. You might even look forward to it.” With that, Ratta Tat started tapping his paw and made up a new rap:
You can call it bad
Or see it as good,
It’s all up to you
So do what you should.
Call it all good “GOOD!”
Call it all good “GOOD!”
We call it all good
In Wee Wisdom ‘hood.
Question for Kids: Can you think of something you think is bad or negative. Try calling it good instead. How does that change how you think about that thing? How does it change how you feel?
