A Rich Rap

Ratta Tat the rappin’ rat was sitting on the edge of the fountain listening to his iPod and rappin’ away. He was off in his own little world and didn’t even notice Allie the cat until she tapped him on the shoulder.

“Whatcha working on?” Allie asked.

“I’m trying to rhyme a new song,” said Ratta Tat. “Wanna hear?”

Allie nodded her head and sat down as Ratta Tat started tapping his paw to the beat:
        I make boatloads of money,
The girls all call me honey.
The car I drive is so nice,
It’s worth the very high price …

“Wait a second,” Allie said, interrupting Ratta Tat in the middle of his song. “I’m not sure I get it. Don’t you usually rap about things that are real in your life?”

Ratta Tat looked down and shrugged. “Well, I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately, and it seems like everybody in all the commercials has everything you could dream of. So I thought I’d rap about the good life.”

Allie shook her head. “What makes you think the good life is all about money? You know, you can’t even put a price tag on the most valuable things in life. Like our friendship, you couldn’t buy that in a store!”

He seemed to think about it for a minute, then Ratta Tat put his arm around Allie’s shoulder and started to sing again:
        Forget about all the money,
        I’ll take a day that’s sunny.
My friends are so very nice,
On them, you can put no price!

With that, the two stood up and started off down the path making up more rhymes for the next verse of Ratta Tat’s rap.
